Coeur D'Alene Platform Bed

We had so much fun with the design and fabrication of the Coeur D'Alene Platform Bed that what began as a custom project for a local client is now a member of our collection.

The walnut slab headboard is mounted to a cedar timber and ash frame at a functional seven degree angle so that it can be used as a back rest. Ebonized ash slats support the mattress as well as the night stand and vary in width and length in response to the organic shape of the headboard. For a subtle but sophisticated accent wood we chose Wenge, a Central African hardwood. It was used for the fabrication of the night stand as well as the accent bow tie (also known as a butterfly) inlays on the headboard.

We chose this particular walnut slab as the headboard for its asymmetrical shape. The client wanted a night stand on only one side which set the wheels in motion for the slab selection. This design can however be ordered with night stands on both sides and an appropriate slab will be selected to match. Also, feel free to choose a selection of wood species which works best for your space.
